If you really felt that going back was the best thing for you to do, if you knew it deep down, why would you want anyone else to validate your decision? If you are looking for reminders of why you aren't a Borg and don't want to be, here's a few.. http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/wrong-with-being-jehovahs-witness.php "Legislative-- Jesus message was that his followers were to be freed from the burdens of the Mosaic Law, condemning the Pharisees for their petty rule making. He promised "my yoke is kindly and my load is light." (Matthew 11:30)Individuals were to base their behaviour on principles of love. Paul repeatedly showed that the Law was superseded (Romans 7:6) and at Acts 15:28 the older men stated that "the holy spirit and we ourselves have favored adding no further burden to YOU,except these necessary things." The Watchtower Society however has built a preponderance of rules. The Branch Organization Procedure book has over 1,100 rules and regulations. There are over 30 reasons to be disfellowshipped. In addition to the rules already discussed, there is a plethora of regulation written and unwritten, compulsory or recommended, stated directly or implied regarding dress codes, beards, entertainment, the size of gatherings, uncleanness and so forth." "Ability to reason-- In an effort to create unwavering unity Jehovah's Witnesses are forced to suppress questioning and reasoning abilities. This creates unity based, not on truth, but on the mindless following of everything within the pages of Watchtower publications. On leaving it is disconcerting to become aware of how much you once wholeheartedly believed that was quite senseless. It takes time to trust your own thinking ability and to learn how to evaluate information on its merits." "Destruction of all Non Witnesses-- Jehovah's Witnesses long for the time when they are unencumbered by worldly people. As previously discussed in detail, the Watchtower teachesthat shortly the "billions of people who do not know Jehovah [will] ? perish during the great tribulation." (w93 10/1 p.19) The billions of rotting cadavers will be left as "Birds and beasts ? gorge themselves on the unburied bodies of Gog's crowd." (w88 9/15 p.26) This inhumane picture invalidates the existence of virtually every one of a Witnesses neighbors, school friends and workmates. In the following picture Jehovah's Witnesses are shown smiling as the world and its billions of inhabitants are destroyed at Armageddon."

What Is It That Really Troubles the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses?
by orangefatcat inwell i think what worries them the most is that more and more witnesses are becoming free thinkers and that is troubling them, it worries them that thinking freely will cause them to seek answers elsewhere and that is the last thing the gb wants.
they have pulled the reins so tight now how much tighter can they pull before many witnesss crack under their yokes.
what is your thoughts on this matter.. .

The Quiet One
I heard from a friend that, from September, in England and Ireland.. people will no longer be able to order however many magazines they want, there'll be no reserving 50 and then not placing them anymore. Publishers will have to take just enough to last through the week from the amount left on display at the hall, on a kind of first come, first serve basis. The GB are 'concerned that large amounts of literature aren't being placed'. I've heard this was trialled in America..

Question I Asked a JW at My Door Today
by Broken Promises inbackground: a jw has been calling on me since april.
i have told her that my relatives are jws (true) to explain my knowledge of jwism.
i've written about her before, you can find other topics i've started on my discussions with her.

Bp-It's great you're trying to make that effort to reach her. If I were you, I might start preparing what to say on the subject of apostasy. jwfacts.com has quotes on apostates that may help you see what kind of things she might have read on the subject. I agree that you may have been 'rumbled' as to being apostate, she might have asked you if to call back as an attempt to get out of the duty of calling back on you. What you say about apostasy could end the return visits, so you might want to tread carefully. I hope all goes well.

Is It Cognitive Bias or Is It Intentional?
by breakfast of champions inwith this latest wt article dealing with the 587/607 disparity, i truly have to wonder how people who have obviously done much research on the subject can systematically and purposefully either suppress or cast doubt upon all 'negative' evidence, while manipulating facts so they appear to support their stance.. is this a case of cognitive bias("a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest" as paul simon said)?.
or is this a matter of knowing what the facts are and intentionaly misleading people?.
maybe i already answered my own question.. .

Look at their history. They have used selective quotes taken from books that otherwise support 587. I try not to judge peoples motives, though. Maybe they are self-deluded, I don't know. Wobble, I have a great deal of respect for you and your comments, but how can you really KNOW that they don't believe their own nonsense? Just saying..

Oh the weirdness: Observations from a study
by howdidtihappen ini started studying jw with a work friend because she used to keep me at arms length and i knew it was because of her religion.
she and her family are such lovely people so i thought maybe there was something to it, how bad can it be, etc.
i was enticed by this girls friendship as she has been spending more time with me but continues to say "you're not one of us yet" which continually freaks me out.

(sorry for the double post) Curtains- What about a baptized minor, who is required to take part in field service, who has unbelieving parents? That child feels that he has to 'obey Jehovah' and go on the ministry, but his parents can't join him, literally! Nobody will object if an appointed man works with him. Just think about it.

The Quiet One
Two points: “When a Minor Is Disfellowshipped”, The Watchtower, Oct. 1 2001, p.16.- this alone proves minors can be disfellowshipped.. ''If he [df'd person]gives evidence of a genuine desire to pursue a right course, the elders may feel it would be justifiable to talk to him privately, giving exhortation from God's Word in a corrective manner, which might move him to abandon his wrong course. This would not be conducted in the form of a Bible study; rather, it would be a matter of simply offering admonition directed toward his spiritual readjustment.See August 1, 1974, Watchtower, pp. 468-470.''- Would a baptized parent be allowed to be present when a df'd child is talking to an elder spiritually? And if the child were df'd for apostasy (they decided that they no longer believed in the FDS), then changed their mind/were scared of being kicked out of home/wanted their parents to be able to talk to them again or whatever reason, wouldn't the elders be the only ones that could talk to the child in relation to The Truth, with them being apostate? At the very least, might df'd minors have to have private talks with elders, let alone if they went 'apostate'? I'm probably going crazy here, but it's just a thought.. Secondly, I know of several active jw's, who had private bible studies with an appointed man, myself included. Its not exactly a rare occurrence that a boy, born-in or otherwise, doesn't have a father in The Truth/living with them, and so the parents arrange for a mature Christian (jw elder or MS, I know several who had elders) brother have a study with them, so that they have a 'spiritual male role model' or whatever. Realistically, although the mother/unbelieving father COULD sit in on the study, it would be in another room for at least half an hour, to allow privacy. Not much point in a teenage boy, who wants to discuss private matters at times, having a male study conductor if his mother's sat there, is there? And I've, in the past as a minor, worked with an appointed man in service, alone in the car at times. Of course, the elder would be trusted completely. To be clear, I was perfectly fine, I'm just presenting situations that come about that allow for abuse in the wrong hands. It shouldn't be hard for Mr. Unthank to find ex-jw's who had an elder studying with them as a minor.. Hope this is useful.

Page 82: ''Although primarily parents are responsible for their own children, others in the congregation may wish to help young ones who are motivated from the heart to share in the Kingdom-preaching work.''..'' It would be appropriate for the parent to approach one of the elders..to discuss whether the child is qualified to become a publisher..two elders meet with the child and his parent(s).'' page 158 '' When the elders handle cases of serious sins involving a baptized minor, it is preferable that the baptized parents of the young person be present and cooperate with the judicial committee..''- What if the childs parents aren't baptized?
